Automatic Stormwater Diversion System Protects Beach in Santa Monica, CA

Last week, the first of six Attitude Technology Automatic Stormwater Diversion Systems (ASWDS), manufactured by C.I.Agent Storm•Water Solutions, were installed at a new bathroom and shower complex on the beach in Santa Monica, CA.

Showers at beaches are often installed without drains thus causing a water quality issue and a threat to the Santa Monica Bay; reflecting on tourism economy in the area.

So when new bathrooms and showers were designed for the entire length of the Santa Monica beach in 6 locations, it was unacceptable to have the water people shower in go into the ocean. Drains were added to the design and now the shower water is pumped to the sanitary sewer along with the toilets. The issue of rain water going down those drains was raised. With the area waste-water treatment plant already operating at or near capacity, the rain water influx was also unacceptable.

Because of the success of the Attitude Technology ASWDS in the area, the architect and engineer chose this system to handle the drainage issues. The Attitude Technology ASWDS, manufactured by C.I.Agent Storm•Water Solutions, is a low maintenance, flexible and configurable system to meet many water diversion needs. Now the shower water at the beach will not adversely impact the ocean water quality and the extra rain water will not go to the treatment plant. A WIN-WIN for the community.
